OLPM

Our Lady of Perpetual Mayhem

The Residence

Norman the tuxedo cat stands on a windowsill, facing into the room. A white box fan is visible next to him. Outside, through the windowscreen, a tree with oranges growing on it can be seen.

About us

OLPM is a house, and it’s an experience. Located in Boyle Heights, we pack a lot into our 3060 square feet. The building, built in 1902, sports 6 individual bedrooms + an office, two full bathrooms and two kitchens. We’ve got a complete, no-coins laundry room with one washer and one dryer, and our off-street parking includes 2 garage spots and stack parking space for 6 more cars in our driveway. There’s an attic and a storage room for extra belongings, a workshop out back with plenty of tools, and a spacious living room with a home theater.

But that’s just the building! Inside, we’ve built a community of folks who feel more like extended family than housemates. We share dinners, D&D, boardgames, and movie nights at least once or twice a month, and always make sure to look out for one another. We are all smart, queer, thoughtful, direct communicators, who prioritize compassion and constructive attitudes. We’re all building interesting lives, together and separately — you should be, too!

Household Stuff

Pets

We love cats! We have five. Your cat, dog, bunny, or other fuzzy animal is welcome, provided that they get along with the other residents (fuzzy and non-), do not do destructive behavior, and you contribute proactively to animal-related cleanup and maintenance. There is a pet deposit of $250 per pet. Cage pets are permitted with no deposit.

Projects

We have a garden that spans both front and back yards, including vegetables, flowers, decorative plants, and mature fruit trees. Residents have hobbies like tailoring, canning, tinkering, and home improvement. It’s very cottage-core. People who are also into that are the best fit!

Amenities and Chores

We have a lot going on here, including a hot tub, a garden that’s always needing attention, and a lot of square footage that needs to be kept decent. We have a cleaning crew come every month or two to keep things from getting out of hand. However, we also keep each other accountable to clean our mess and keep the house pleasant.
